To secure the lowest available rates and exclusive packages at The Equus, we always recommend booking direct through the official website of the hotel.

Does The Equus offer Kama‘āina rates for Hawaii residents or military discounts?

Yes. The Equus takes pride in supporting our local community and service members. Our Kama‘āina Rate offers Hawaii residents up to 25% off accommodations when booking direct, along with a discounted $10 daily boutique amenity fee (a valid Hawaii State ID is required at check-in)

What is the cancellation policy and is a security deposit required at check-in?

Cancellation Policy: For standard single-room reservations, you can cancel your stay for a full refund up to 72 hours prior to your scheduled check-in time. Please note that during peak travel seasons, our cancellation window may be extended up to 2 weeks. Late cancellations or no-shows will result in a penalty equal to one night’s room rate plus tax.

Deposit & Fees: To guarantee your reservation, a deposit equal to one night’s stay plus tax is charged at the time of booking. The remaining balance of your entire stay will be billed in full to your credit card upon arrival at check-in. Please note that The Equus is a cash-free property, and a valid credit card matching your identification is required at the front desk.

What payment methods are accepted for reservations?

The Equus accepts all major corporate credit cards and debit networks for room reservations and on-site payments, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and JCB. Valid card payment matching the primary guest’s name is required to settle room charges, taxes, and tabs at the Paniolo Bar & Cafe.

What is the daily amenity fee and what specific services does it cover?

The daily boutique amenity fee at The Equus covers high-speed Wi-Fi access throughout the property, complimentary fresh pool and beach towel services, a signature Fire Horse welcome drink or local beverage at the Paniolo Bar & Cafe upon arrival, and exclusive access to two complimentary admission tickets to live matches at the Hawai‘i Polo Club on the North Shore during the active polo season.

Are Hawaii state taxes included in the room rate?

No, published nightly room rates at The Equus do not include mandatory statutory Hawaii lodging taxes. A combination of the Hawaii General Excise Tax (GET) and the Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT) will be calculated and displayed transparently as separate line items on your booking summary prior to final confirmation.

Do you offer complimentary breakfast during the stay?

While standard room rates do not automatically include food, guests can easily add morning dining by purchasing our Daily Breakfast Package or reserving The Fire Horse Campaign.

These dining choices include a fresh daily breakfast for two people—featuring premium local coffee and a breakfast sandwich—served at our equestrian-inspired open-air Paniolo Bar & Cafe located right on the lobby lanai.

Can I book a room block for a group or wedding at The Equus?

Yes. The Equus provides specialized boutique room blocks for weddings, family reunions, and groups. You can also host your ceremony or reception at our spectacular beachfront sister property, the Hawaii Polo Club on the North Shore.

Located just 45 minutes from Waikīkī, this unique venue offers remote oceanfront event spaces, an open-air clubhouse, and access to polo ponies for unforgettable photo shoots.

Where is The Equus located and how far is it from the beach?

The Equus is a charming boutique hotel located on Waikīkī’s quieter side at the gateway of Honolulu, O‘ahu, situated just 8 miles (a convenient 15-to-20-minute drive) from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL).

Our guests enjoy a quieter, highly accessible neighborhood setting that sits less than a 10-minute walk away from Ala Moana Beach Park—a spacious, pristine local swimming beach that’s less crowded compared to central Waikīkī Beach.

We’re also only 10 minutes walking distance from Kahanamoku Beach and Hilton Lagoon.

What are the check-in and check-out times at The Equus?

Standard guest check-in at The Equus begins at 3:00 PM, and standard checkout is scheduled at 12:00 NN.

Does the hotel offer early check-in, late check-out, or secure luggage storage?

We gladly accommodate early check-in requests whenever rooms become clean and available ahead of schedule. If your flight lands early in the morning or you require a late departure, our front desk provides secure, complimentary luggage storage. While waiting, guests are fully welcome to kick back in our living room or relax with a beverage at the Paniolo Bar & Cafe.

Does The Equus offer on-site parking and what are the daily rates?

Yes, secure on-site vehicle parking is available directly at the property for a daily parking fee (valet only – $40). Please note that parking fees are entirely waived for active-duty service members who book our specialized Military TLA Perks package.

Is there an airport shuttle service to and from the hotel?

The Equus does not operate a private airport shuttle. However, our convenient Upper West Side location makes the hotel highly accessible from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), which is an easy 15-to-20-minute ride via standard taxi, rideshare services (like Uber and Lyft), or municipal airport shuttle operators.

What is the hotel's smoking policy?

In strict accordance with Hawaii State smoke-free laws, The Equus maintains a 100% smoke-free property environment. Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes and vapes, is strictly prohibited inside all indoor guest rooms, public common areas, the outdoor pool deck, and on all private guest room balconies.

Is The Equus an ADA-accessible property?

No. Due to the historic architecture of our building, The Equus is operating under a grandfathered exemption and is not fully ADA accessible. Because structural limitations prevent our elevator from reaching the ground level, we do not have ADA-compliant guest rooms, wheelchair-accessible pathways, or ground-floor access to our front desk and lobby.

We want all of our guests to have a comfortable and safe experience. If you or someone in your travel party have specific mobility needs, please contact our team directly prior to booking.

Is the hotel an eco-friendly property?

Yes, The Equus is proudly celebrated as Hawaii’s very first green hotel. Through our long-term sustainability efforts, including our local Project Kanu initiative and our active partnership with Kind Traveler, our operations directly fund the planting of food-bearing trees on O‘ahu to preserve the island’s natural ecosystem and protect the ‘āina (land).

Is The Equus within walking distance to Ala Moana Center?

Yes. The Equus is located within a short, easy 5-to-10 minute walk (approximately 0.3 miles) to Ala Moana Center, the world’s largest open-air shopping mall.

Situated on Waikīkī’s quieter “Upper West Side,” our guests can simply walk a few blocks down Ala Moana Boulevard and cross the bridge to instantly access over 350 world-class retail stores, diverse dining options, and local entertainment, completely bypassing the heavy traffic and congestion of central Kalākaua Avenue.

Where is the nearest trolley or bus stop?

Excellent public transportation options surround our property. Clean municipal bus stops operated by Honolulu’s transit system (TheBus), as well as convenient pickup locations for the famous Waikiki Trolley lines, are situated right outside or within one block of the hotel entrance, connecting you seamlessly to downtown Honolulu, Chinatown, and Diamond Head. (on the corner of Hobron and Ala Moana Blvd or across the street to head towards Waikiki)

Guest Rooms & Family Services

What is the maximum occupancy per room and are connecting rooms available?

Maximum room occupancy at The Equus varies depending on your selected room configuration, allowing up to two guests in our standard King Bed layouts and up to four guests in our Double Bed room options.

To request connecting guest rooms or coordinate arrangements for larger families, please contact our front desk team directly prior to your arrival date.

We also offer a 1 bedroom suite that accommodates 4 guests with a kitchenette for larger facilities or families.

Do guest rooms include a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker?

Yes. To provide a comfortable home away from home, every warm, contemporary guest room at The Equus comes equipped with a compact mini-fridge (its larger than a regular hotel mini-fridge it is a compact refrigerator with a separate freezer) and an in-room pod-style Keurig coffee maker for your morning routine.

Microwaves or microwave access can be coordinated through our guest services team upon request but are not available in guest rooms.

Do kids stay for free at The Equus?

Yes, children aged 17 and under stay free of charge at The Equus when sharing a room with a parent or legal guardian and utilizing the room’s existing bedding configurations.

Any guests beyond 2 persons per room incur an additional person fee of $25/day per person.

Are cribs, rollaway beds, or extra linens available for families?

Yes, complimentary cribs, and rollaway beds can be requested during the reservation process or directly at check-in to accommodate family travel arrangements, subject to seasonal availability.

Housekeeping will gladly provide extra linens, pillows, and blankets upon request.

Note: Classic King Rooms do not allow rollaway beds due to fire safety. 

Is there an in-room safe, iron, and ironing board provided?

Yes. Every guest room features a secure, digital in-room electronic safe to protect your personal valuables, along with a full-sized iron and ironing board so you can look your best for a night out at the Paniolo Bar or an afternoon watching polo matches.

What is the hotel's policy on pets and service animals?

ADA-defined working service animals are fully permitted across all public spaces and guest rooms at The Equus. For companion pets and emotional support animals, please reach out to our reservations office directly to review our current pet-friendly room availability, weight limits, and cleaning fees before checking in.

Does the hotel have air conditioning in all rooms?

Yes. All guest rooms and suites at The Equus are equipped with fully controllable, individual indoor air conditioning units, ensuring a cool, refreshing escape from the warm tropical Honolulu climate.

What are the hours of operation for the Paniolo Bar & Cafe?

The Paniolo Bar & Cafe is open daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Located right in the lobby of The Equus , it operates as a welcoming local café by day serving hand-crafted artisan coffee and tea , and transitions into a smooth neighborhood saloon by evening featuring unique equestrian-themed cocktails and libations.

When is live music scheduled at the Paniolo Bar?

Live music on our open-air lobby lanai is every Saturday evening starting around 6:00 PM. Enjoy acoustic performances, slack-key guitar, and island rhythms from celebrated local musicians.

What are the pool hours and do you provide towels for the pool and beach?

Our intimate lobby dipping pool is open for guest relaxation daily from morning until dusk. Fresh, complimentary pool and beach towels are available at the front desk for all registered guests heading out to the pool deck or taking the short walk down to Ala Moana Beach Park.

Is there a business center for internet access and printing boarding passes?

While our boutique hotel embraces a relaxed, “unbridled” polo lifestyle, our front desk staff is always available to assist with essential business needs.

Guests can connect to our property-wide high-speed Wi-Fi or request assistance at the front counter to print airline boarding passes, tour vouchers, or travel documents.

Are there guest laundry facilities or room service available?

The Equus does not offer traditional in-room dining services, but the Paniolo Bar & Cafe features wonderful grab-and-go food and beverage choices, and our Upper West Side neighborhood puts an abundance of top-rated local restaurants right at your doorstep.

Can I book island tours or local activities through the hotel?

Absolutely. Our guest service experts specialize in curating authentic O‘ahu itineraries. We can directly schedule guided oceanfront horseback trail rides or private polo lessons at our beautiful 100-acre sister property on the North Shore, as well as coordinate surfing lessons, catamaran sails, and historical island tours.

Can non-hotel guests visit the Paniolo Bar & Cafe?

Yes! The Paniolo Bar & Cafe is built to be a welcoming neighborhood gathering spot for our guests and local community. Local Honolulu residents and outside visitors are always invited to walk in, pull up a barstool, experience our Saturday live music sessions, and enjoy a drink with us.

Is there a filtered water station or ice machine available for guests?

Yes. In alignment with our environmental leadership as Hawaii’s first green hotel, we provide clean, accessible guest ice machines and filtered water bottle filling stations to encourage travelers to use reusable flasks and minimize single-use plastics during their stay.

How do I claim my complimentary tickets to a Hawaii Polo Club match?

Every guest who stays at The Equus during the active Hawaii Polo Season receives two complimentary admission tickets to see a live match. To claim your tickets and check current seasonal match schedules, simply present your room key or ask our guest services team at the front desk during your stay.

Can I book horseback riding tours through the hotel?

Yes, experiencing Hawaii’s deep equestrian roots is our signature specialty. Because our hotel’s ownership family directly operates a magnificent, 100-acre completely unspoiled beachfront ranch along O‘ahu’s North Shore, guests can seamlessly book spectacular oceanfront trail rides at the front desk.

You can also secure these excursions by booking The Fire Horse Campaign rate, which automatically includes a 20% discount on a horseback trail ride for two.

How far is the North Shore property from Waikīkī?

Our private 100-acre North Shore sister property and the home fields of the Hawai‘i Polo Club are located approximately 45 to 50 miles away from our Waikīkī hotel. It is a highly scenic, straightforward 60-minute drive that takes you past the central plains of O‘ahu and straight to a stunning, uncrowded beachfront sanctuary.

Can I host a wedding or private event at your North Shore property?

Yes!
